California reintroduces indoor mask mandates through holiday season (KUSI News – San Diego)
Citing a sharp increase in COVID-19 infection rates since Thanksgiving, the state announced Monday that beginning Wednesday, mask- wearing will become mandatory in all indoor public settings across California regardless of vaccination status.
The mask mandate, mirroring a requirement already in effect in Los Angeles County and select other counties across the state, will remain in place until Jan. 15.
FDA Now Wants 75 Years to Release Pfizer Vaccine Documents (The Defender)
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) now says it needs 75 years — up from the 55 years the agency initially requested — to fully release redacted versions of all documents related to the agency’s approval of Pfizer’s Comirnaty COVID-19 vaccine.
In a legal brief filed Dec. 7, the FDA said 59,000 additional pages of documents, not included in the agency’s earlier filings, need to be processed. The agency did not offer an explanation for why those documents initially were overlooked.
The agency said it can release an initial batch of approximately 12,000 pages by the end of January. Past that date, the FDA said it can process and disclose only 500 pages of documents per month.

At about 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 13, Christopher Davies, son of Fauquier Hospital ICU patient Kathleen Davies, provided to the Fauquier Times court documents signed by Loudoun County Circuit Court Judge James Fisher. According to the documents, Fauquier Hospital was found in contempt of court for “needlessly interposing requirements that stand in the way of the patient’s desired physician administering investigational drugs as part of the Health Care Decisions Act and the federal and state Right to Try Acts.”
Sixty-three year old Kathleen Davies fell ill with COVID-19 in early October and has been on a ventilator in the hospital since Nov. 3.
Barcelona’s Sergio Agüero to announce retirement with heart condition (The Guardian)
Sergio Agüero is due to announce his retirement from football on Wednesday because of a heart condition, six months after Manchester City’s record scorer joined Barcelona as a free agent.
The 33-year-old experienced chest problems and breathing difficulties during the first half of Barcelona’s 1-1 draw with Alavés on 30 October. Agüero fell to the turf at the Camp Nou clutching his chest and was treated for several minutes before being able to walk off. He was admitted to hospital for cardiological tests, the club later stating that he would be out for three months and would undertake a “diagnostic and therapeutic process”.

The Air Force has discharged 27 people for refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine, making them what officials believe are the first service members to be removed for disobeying the mandate to get the shots.
The Air Force gave its forces until November 2 to get the vaccine, and thousands have either refused or sought an exemption.

(NYSE: PFE) just announced the giant pharmaceutical company would acquire Arena Pharmaceuticals, Inc (ARNA) a clinical-stage company developing innovative potential therapies for the treatment of several immune-inflammatory diseases. Pfizer will payout for Arena $100 per share in this all-cash deal equaling a substantial $6.7 billion. The deal should progress as both boards have given the thumbs up.

According to the Israeli daily HaAretz, over 40% of Israelis are not protected against the new variant of coronavirus. HaAretz says the Israeli Health Ministry reports that only 58% of eligible Israelis over 5 years old are fully vaccinated, meaning they’ve received two doses of the vaccine plus a booster, 9.3 percent are double vaccinated but have allowed six months to pass without getting a third dose, and 32.4% of Israelis are unvaccinated.
Washington state senator missing for a month after reporting he had COVID (Just the News)
A Washington state Republican legislator who told colleagues he contracted COVID-19 during a trip to El Salvador last month has not been heard from since.
He did not return a request for a confirmation from The Center Square Monday that he is still alive.
Sen. Doug Ericksen, 52, said on KIRO News in November that he fell ill while in the Central American country.

The city’s data reveals there were a total of 713 overdose deaths, compared to 261 COVID-19 deaths in 2020.

The World Health Organization has deployed a rapid response task force to South Sudan to investigate a mysterious illness that has left at least 89 people dead.
The ministry of health in South Sudan has reported fast-spreading illness in the northern town of Fangak, in the Jonglei state, which local scientists haven’t been able to identify.
The region was recently hit with severe flooding — with health officials tasked with gathering samples to help identify the deadly disease.

All along, older people have been known to be more vulnerable, but the scale of loss is only now coming into full view.
Seventy-five percent of people who have died of the virus in the United States — or about 600,000 of the nearly 800,000 who have perished so far — have been 65 or older. One in 100 older Americans has died from the virus. For people younger than 65, that ratio is closer to 1 in 1,400.
