Natural Immunity 97 Percent Effective Against Severe COVID-19 After 14 Months (The Epoch Times) - July 9, 2022
The protection against severe illness from so-called natural immunity remains superior to the protection bestowed by COVID-19 vaccines, according to a new study. People who survived COVID-19 infection and were not vaccinated had sky-high protection against severe or fatal COVID-19, researchers in Qatar found.
“Effectiveness of primary infection against severe, critical, or fatal COVID-19 reinfection was 97.3 percent … irrespective of the variant of primary infection or reinfection, and with no evidence for waning. Similar results were found in sub-group analyses for those ≥50 years of age,” Dr. Laith Abu-Raddad, with Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, and colleagues said after studying long-term natural immunity in unvaccinated people. That percentage is higher than the protection from COVID-19 vaccines, according to other studies and real-world data.
As the BA.5 variant spreads, the risk of coronavirus reinfection grows (Washington Post) - July 10, 2022
The latest omicron offshoot, BA.5, has quickly become dominant in the United States, and thanks to its elusiveness when encountering the human immune system, is driving a wave of cases across the country.
The size of that wave is unclear because most people are testing at home or not testing at all. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the past week has reported a little more than 100,000 new cases a day on average. But infectious-disease experts know that wildly underestimates the true number, which may be as many as a million, said Eric Topol, a professor at Scripps Research who closely tracks pandemic trends.
Macao to shutter casinos for a week in COVID-19 outbreak (ABC News) - July 10, 2022
The Asian gambling center of Macao will close all its casinos for a week starting Monday and largely restrict people to their homes as it tries to stop a COVID-19 outbreak that has infected more than 1,400 people in the past three weeks.
All businesses have been ordered to shut except for supermarkets and others providing essential services. Residents must stay home unless they need to go out, such as for food shopping or to work in a sector deemed essential.
Covid Vaccine Mandates News
Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic, still 'not planning to get vaccinated,' set to skip US Open (ESPN) - July 10, 2022
Just hours after winning his fourth straight title at Wimbledon with a four-set victory over Nick Kyrgios, Novak Djokovic confirmed he has no plans to receive the COVID-19 vaccination and will not be playing the US Open unless the restrictions to enter the country are eased or he is given a medical exemption.
"I'm not vaccinated and I'm not planning to get vaccinated so the only good news I can have is them removing the mandated green vaccine card or whatever you call it to enter United States or exemption," Djokovic said Sunday. "I don't know. I don't think exemption is realistically possible. If that is possibility, I don't know what exemption would be about.”

If You Do This at Night, You May Be at Risk of Lewy Body Dementia, Experts Warn (BestLife) - July 9, 2022
"Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder is a sleep disorder in which you physically act out vivid, often unpleasant dreams with vocal sounds and sudden, often violent arm and leg movements during REM sleep—sometimes called dream-enacting behavior," reports the Mayo Clinic. This condition can manifest years before other symptoms of LBD occur.
"We can diagnose the sleep disorder with a sleep study," neurologist James Leverenz, MD, tells the Cleveland Clinic. "And there's a high chance that a person with this disorder will develop LBD or Parkinson's disease." Leverenz notes that this behavior is often first noticed by the patient's bed partner. "Often when someone comes in for an evaluation, and we ask about sleep disturbances, the bed partner says, 'Oh, they've been doing that for years,'" he notes.
‘Institutional Corruption’: Big Pharma Money Permeating Global Drug Regulators (The Epoch Times) - July 8, 2022
Though drug regulators were originally set up to regulate the drug industry, a new investigation by the British Medical Journal (BMJ) shows that conflict of interest (COI) is pervasive within agencies globally. Pharmaceutical companies are the biggest funders of major regulatory agencies.
The study found some national drug agencies are almost exclusively reliant on pharmaceutical money, serving as a “prime example of institutional corruption,” said sociologist Donald Light in the study.
